Arai Fumi and Watanabe Chika, former troupe mates from the Japanese La Revue, have decided to put their combined skills in all-female theatre to the test and launch their own dance company in Berlin, Germany, where Chika has been working as a modern dancer the past five years. Arriving to the city late that summer, Fumi joins her for the final stretch of preparing their rented venue and the 7 additional dancers they'll need to perform for opening day during the yearly hanami celebrations. August to April, it's a race against time for the Cherry Blossom Company.

quick rundown: After ending her long career with the Japanese La Revue, Fumi along with her friend, Chika, start their own dance company in Berlin, where Chika lives and works, that takes the all-female musical style of La Revue and accommodates it to international performers as well as an European audience.
canon point: After Fumi has arrived in Berlin to work as director for their musical dance troupe, The Cherry Blossom Company.
notes: Inspired by the Takarazuka Revue, but I don't adhere strictly to the structure and performance style of that theatre in this original portrayal.

Fumi Arai, Japanese dancer and actress, founder of The Cherry Blossom Company. Working as director of their shows and occasional choreographer. Her family, owners of a rich fashion designer brand, is funding the productions and credited as sponsors. Their offices in Berlin are also responsible for costumes.

Chika Watanabe, Japanese dancer residing in Berlin, founder of The Cherry Blossom Company. Has worked and lived in Berlin the past five years after she left the Revue. Has a German boyfriend whom she doesn't live with and has no intentions of ever returning to Japan, even if their Cherry Blossom Company doesn't work out. Male role dancer at the company as well as house choreographer.

Mallory Schmidt, 30 years old, dance colleague from Chika's old company who has followed her to the Cherry Blossom Company, though she isn't sure she's completely dedicated to the idea yet. German. Female role dancer.

Rhea Weber, 28 years old, modern dancer who's trying to get back into the dance world after a long injury. German. Male role dancer.

Hyun-Ae Yoon, 26 years old, modern dancer who's just got to Berlin from Seoul and is seeing this as her opportunity to advance in the competitive dance world in the city. South Korean. Female role dancer.

Camilla Bojesen, 33 years old, modern dancer who has been a fan of La Revue for years and thought the concept for the new company sounded great, wanting to try out the performance of gender herself. Danish. Male role dancer.

Ivy Miller-Davis, 30 years old, modern dancer who was familiar with La Revue as a concept, but had never thought much of it until she saw the call for dancers here. American. Female role dancer.

Charlotte Dubois, 31 years old, former ballet dancer who is returning to the world of dance through her engagement with the company. French. Otokoyaku, nicknamed Charlie.

Mai Morita, 29 years old, former La Revue actress from Baragumi who has followed Chika and Fumi to Germany when she heard about their project. Japanese. Female role dancer and lead singer with the band. She has a beautiful, strong voice.

Became an actress with La Revue at age 21.
Retired at age 30.



2020, Fumi and Chika begin staging their first performances for their new dance theatre, The Cherry Blossom Company, inspired by their time in La Revue.
